Ayurvedic Psoriasis Treatment in PCMC

Psoriasis is auto-immune disorder which means it occurs when immune system attacks the healthy cells causing its rapid growth. The body fails to shed these excess cells causing build-up of skin layers. Due to accelerated growth of cells, new skin cells are formed in days rather than weeks.

Symptoms of psoriasis are red, scaly patches, papules, and itching plaques. The skin lesions observed in Psoriasis vary in severity and can be seen as small patches on complete body. In people with Psoriasis the skin cells are replaced in every 3 to 5 days whereas in normal skin the cells are replaced after 28 to 30 days.

Ayurvedic Treatment of Psoriasis

Modern medicines offer short term symptomatic relief from steroids which have severe side effects. The effect are also observed when person discontinue the medicines.

However, Ayurveda provides long term solution for Psoriasis with zero effects. Ayurveda believes that there is a strong relation between unhealthy lifestyle, stress and skin diseases, and therefore the treatment is based on correcting these unhealthy habits and stress management.

The treatment includes Panchkarma for internal cleansing of the body to restore Doshas, oral medication and topical herbal paste application to cure the lesions. The local therapies nourish and prevent further spread of the disease.

Why Does Psoriasis Happen As Per Ayurveda

Ayurveda believes that, reduced bio-digestive fires in body due to regular consumption of non-compatible foods (like fish-milk, fruit-milk, pickles, spices) causes vitiation of all the three Doshas leading to toxin build up in the body. These toxins further affect the Rasa, Rakta and Mamsa Dhatu which causes dry scaly patches on the skin. Although lifestyle factors and family history have close relation with psoriasis, Ayurveda belives unhealthy eating pattern as the major cause of Psoriasis.

  • Virrudha Aahar: Combination of milk and sour/salty/spicy items, milk with fish, milkshakes, curd and milk taken together etc.
  • Excess consumption of sour and spicy food items like pickels, chips, papads, curd, foods containing mono sodium glutamate etc.
  • Drinking water immediately after exposure to sun, or drinking cold and hot beverages back to back
  • Irregular and unhealthy food habits
  • Alcohol and tobacco addiction
